43 Acres Near Winchendon Added to State Wildlife Refuge

WINCHENDON — More than 40 acres of land in Winchendon have been added to a Massachusetts wildlife refuge, according to a report from Northeast Explorer citing Mount Grace Land Trust. The addition expands protected habitat in town as the library and Parks and Recreation Department roll out a full slate of late-August programming.

COMMUNITY & ARTS Beals Memorial Library's summer lineup continues through the month. The Teen Dungeons & Dragons Club meets Tuesday, Aug. 18, and Storytime at the Library returns Friday, Aug. 21. The library's Cookbook Book Club and its Lego Club both meet Monday, Aug. 24, followed by the Mystery & Thriller Lovers Book Club on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

The Parks and Recreation Department has two community gatherings on the calendar for the following weekend: a Free Community Open Mic & Picnic in the Park on Friday, Aug. 28, and the Blues, Brew & BBQ event on Saturday, Aug. 29.

Wednesday, Aug. 19, brings meetings of the Fire Station Committee, the Cultural Council, the Montachusett Metropolitan Planning Organization, and the MRVTS 2026-2027 Policy Subcommittee.

On the recreation and family side, the CFCE Preschool Playgroup meets Thursday, Aug. 20, and again Thursday, Aug. 27, when Community Game Night is also held. A yoga session with Chantal from Shadow Alchemy Wellness is set for Monday, Aug. 24, and Bingo at the Hub returns Thursday, Aug. 27.
